RV’s And Safety Procedures
An RV – a Recreational Vehicle – is like a house on wheels. It is the landlubber’s equivalent of a barge, you can live in it while travelling the country. You are as free as a bird in your RV as you do not need to go where the hotels are located.
Having said that, the RV is also a mobile bomb carrying gallons of petrol or diesel and tanks of propane or calorgas. Therefore, you need to have clear safety measures in place and you need to know and follow them. Fire safety is of the highest importance to the conscientious RV driver.
Fire extinguishers are rated as either A, B, C, or D, which indicates the type of fire that they can be used to combat. If you did not already know it, you can not simply squirt any fire extinguisher at any type of fire. Using the wrong extinguisher on a fire can escalate the risk, so be cautious.
Having said that, some fire extinguishers can be used on different kinds of fires, so it is possible to find extinguishers rated as AB, BC and even ABC. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that all RV’s carry a BC rated extinguisher near the main exit from the RV. A BC type extinguisher should be used to fight fires originating from flammable liquids and gases – just what an RV driver needs.
The key point about a fire extinguisher of the correct type is that it has to be in the right position. It is no use having a fire extinguisher if you cannot get to it to fight the fire when it breaks out.
If the diver’s cab is detached from the sleeping compartment, you should carry an extinguisher in the cab too. Store one outside the RV and one inside it too.
It is a decent idea to develop a fire prevention and fire safety course before you set out but be sure that your companions know how best to prevent and how best to handle fires in the RV. Fires in confined spaces such as an RV, a caravan or a boat are especially terrifying and dangerous, because you are more probable to become overwhelmed by the smoke and gases than in a house. Finding your way out of an unfamiliar RV that is full of smoke is not as simple as you may think.
You should also instruct your companions how to operate a fire extinguisher – after all, most individuals have never utilized one. Keep in mind the word ‘PASS’, which stands for ‘Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep’.
This means, pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire, squeeze the lever and sweep the spray across the base of the fire until it is extinguished. The optimum distance from the fire is around eight feet, but this is not always possible.
If you have to make a choice between saving the vehicle or endangering your safety, let the RV burn, after all, it is insured. Never put yourself or others at risk for the sake of property.

Car Accessories And Gadgets
Most drivers love gadgets and accessories and the chances are that, if you have a car, you do as well. Drivers love accessories and gadgets from the modest dashboard compass or radio to the on board satellite navigation system and the sophisticated CD or even DVD player. They augment the enjoyment that you get from your driving experience and help turn your car into a copy of the comforts that you enjoy at home.
If you travel a great deal, driving can become boring and so some accessories and gadgets are designed to assuage that boredom although they should never divert the driver’s attention from the primary job in hand, which is getting safely from A to B. I have listed a couple of the most popular, non attention-diverting accessories and gadgets below so that you can see how many of them you already possess.
The number one, all-time favourite is the car radio, although this was long ago upgraded to the car CD , DVD or even MP3 player. Few drivers would be without their car stereo. The car stereo can be a very functional tool too, because you can set it so that, even if you are playing CD’s, the radio will cut in if there is a significant road traffic announcement that will or could affect you. This can be priceless information, especially if you do not have the next device.
The next most common modern gadget is satellite navigation, often called sat nav or GPS, which stands for ‘global positioning service’. Sat nav can replace the radio announcement cut-ins and even go two steps further by suggesting an alternative route in order to circumvent the impediment and giving you instructions how to do it.
An essential piece of kit that every driver should have in the boot is jump leads. Fan belts slacken, batteries short out, all kinds of things can happen, but if you want to get on the road again without delay, the best thing you can have if you have a flat battery is your own set of jump leads. It is no good depending on someone to stop and help you get your car started hoping that they will have jump leads. Get your own, they only cost a few dollars.
If you have children that are a pain in the backside on long journeys, why not get them an in-car entertainment system? Strapped or cut into the back of the front seats, the screens can display video games or films – a bit like airplane seats, but more so.
If you like to drive fast but are fed up with speed cameras, why not fit a speed camera detector? They are not that dear and can be fitted by yourself DIY. It could save you hundreds in fines and even your license.
In truth, there are far too many car accessories and gadgets to be listed here and I am sure that you could mention a dozen that I have left out, but the point is simply that car accessories and gadgets can enhance your driving experience and that is what it is all about at the end of the day.

Handy Gadgets For Your Garage
Are you a garage person or a shed person? Do you like your garden or your car more? If you liked your garden more, you would have loads of gardening gadgets in there in order to make your gardening affairs easier, so why not stock your garage up with gadgets for your garage, if you prefer to spend your time with your vehicle.
The kinds of gadgets for your garage on hand would be those that can be used in the garage and those that can be taken on the road with you in the vehicle or the truck. Specialized tools are some of the most common gadgets to have in the garage and the vehicle.
One of the most widespread gadgets for your garage or car is the distance sensor or parking sensor. This gadget can be fitted to your garage rear wall or fitted to the front and back bumpers of your vehicle. These sensors are wonderful if your vehicle has blind spots, if the light is poor or if parking space is constricted.
These parking sensors are extremely simple to install and can be fitted DIY by almost everybody who can use an electric drill and turn a screwdriver. When the gadget senses an object at the limit of its range, it emits a beep, but as that object comes closer to the sensor, the beeps become louder and more frequent. With a little practice, you will soon be able to park your car inches from a wall or another car.
An electric garage door operator is another notable labour-saving device, particularly on dark, wet or stormy nights. Women in particular are often frightened of getting out of the car to open the garage door at night, so this gadget for the garage door can also be considered a safety gadget as you can secure the garage door behind you as well before getting out of your motor vehicle.
If you or the kids have bikes, they can account for a great deal of storage space and you can easily run over one of them with your vehicle. Unless, of course you hang the bicycles on the walls around your garage. These gadgets for garages are excellent space-savers.
If you need still more storage space, you can get storage boxes that can be hoisted up to the ceiling and lowered back down again for access to them. These gadgets for garages are particularly useful for storing items that you do not use very often, but cannot bring yourself to throw away.
Then there are gadgets for the garage that have more to do with your means of transportation. An air compressor is extremely handy. It can be used for driving power tools and cleaning off the engine and blowing the muck out of the wheel wells. Needless to say, you can also blow up your car and bicycle tyres with it too.
A temperature gun is also helpful for testing the quality of your brakes and tyres as well as parts of your engine for undue wear and a radar detector is handy for those who just cannot keep the pressure off the throttle.

How To Make Money Buying And Selling Used Cars Part 4
In the first part of this mini series on how to make money buying and selling used cars, we looked at which personal skills someone wanting to be successful in this business would need to have. In the second section we looked at the best sites to locate such a business; in the third we looked at sourcing our supply – our vehicles and in this section, we will look at valuing that stock.
Whether you source your vehicles from auctions or from private persons, you will have to be able to work out their value accurately, so, how do you work out the worth of used vehicles? The easiest way to know a vehicle’s average market, trade-in or wholesale value is to subscribe to a car dealers’ used car guide. Most western countries have one, but in the USA the most popular one is called the National Automobile Dealers’ Used Car Guide or N.A.D.A.
NADA not only issues monthly guides to second-hand cars, it also publishes monthly guides on older or classic cars, smaller boats, larger boats, SUV’s, mobile homes, RV’s, snow mobiles and motorcycles. Look them up on the Internet and sign up to their subscription list for the kinds of vehicles that you are interested in.
These used vehicle guides normally include foreign or imported cars nd trucks as well and are a consensus of sales and auctions over the whole country, therefore a little local intelligence is indispensable as well as your area may operate at slightly above or slightly below the national norm, which could present you with further chances for (wholesale) sales by shipping cars into or out of your district.
Sometimes or in some areas, a permit is necessary to run a used car business. This is nothing more than tax by another name normally, so simply requires you to pay a fee. In other areas, it may be a way of weeding out unscrupulous traders and may require an test of same variety, so it is worth checking your district’s requirements before you begin trading.
Some regions have laxer laws than others on buying and selling used cars, allowing ‘occasional sales’. ‘Occasional sales of motor cars or trucks’ is normally intended to be no more than five sales in a twelve month period.
When you are starting out you could make use of this allowance, if your district allows it, to keep your expenses down to a minimum in the costly early days of establishing your business, but once you see yourself passing this maximum number you should apply for a license immediately to avoid incurring any penalties. These penalties can be severe ranging from a fine to disbarment from trading, so be very careful.
You will also have to learn how to collect taxes from your sales and your wages to yourself and to your employees. You will also have to learn how to hand these monies over to the correct authorities on time, although your accountant or book-keeper can assist you there.

If You Need To Change Your Car Battery Read This
As is the case with everything, when your car battery begins to get older, it starts to lose its charge, causing your engine to turn more slowly. If this happens you may need a car battery tester to find out where it’s at. There are occasions that your battery may need to have an occasional jump, in order to start it, especially when you are using your car for short trips or in colder climates. You can augment the power of your weak battery by using a low priced recharger. By doing this, you can add months or even years to the life of your battery.
Now if you see a dashboard warning light flash on, then there is a failure in the charging system. This is something that needs to be addressed immediately, as recharging the battery will not rectify the problem. If your battery is refillable, you should remove the caps, and lay a damp rag over the opening while you recharge the battery.
If the indicator light appears green or dark in the top charge-indicator window, use only the charger. You should replace the battery if the indicator light appears clear or yellow in color.
You can use a low amp charger, often called a trickle charger to add life to your battery. Trickle chargers are cheap and will refresh your battery’s power very slowly over an extended period of time. Your trickle charger will be equipped with two jaw type clips to connect to your battery posts and a plug-in cord that will draw power from a regular outlet. One of your alligator clips should be red (this is our positive clip) and the other will be green or black (this is your negative clip.)
Make sure that your car ignition is turned off when you begin. This is probably the most important tip to remember when starting to recharge your battery. You will first attach the red clip of the charger to the battery’s positive terminal, which is marked with POS or +, while the green (or black) clip is attached to the negative terminal of the battery (marked with Neg or -).
When you connect the battery and the charger, the charger should be plugged into the electrical outlet and in the on position. Allow a few hours or even as long as overnight for the charger to be run. When the charger’s meter delivers a reading of less than 1 ampere, it is time to turn it off. The next step is to unplug the charger and disconnect the battery.
Give some thought to a jump start for the engine if, after recharging, the battery fails to do its job. It is time to replace the bad battery if you are able to jump start the engine and the ammeter or charging system light shows that operation is normal.
