First Aid For Safety While Hunting
Everybody ought to know fundamental First Aid techniques, yet it is particularly important for those who participate in potentially more dangerous sports or activities such as hunting. There are all sorts of things that can happen to you whilst hunting.
Besides getting shot, you could cut yourself while skinning an animal, you could get attacked by an animal, you could fall and break a leg or you could suffer a routine heart attack that could have occurred anywhere.
However, what makes all these things more dangerous when you are hunting is the chances that you will be miles from anywhere whilst it happens. There is no one to turn to except your companion. No ambulances, no doctors and no hospitals for tens of miles.
The first thing that everyone ought to know is CPR, which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which is an emergency procedure consisting of external cardiac massage and artificial respiration. It is vital to know CPR techniques for everyone not merely hunters.
You can learn CPR at several local institutions including the hospital, the fire station, some schools, some scouting organizations and some other institutions like the Boys’ Brigade or the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade.
These organizations can usually teach you over CPR if you want, such as what to do in a crisis. There are particular procedures that are common to most if not all crisis situations. For example, the first rule is to always take care of yourself first. Then assess the situation and make the area safe for yourself and anyone who might come into it.
This might sound selfish, but you are no good to anyone if you permit yourself to get injured and the rescue services will be very cautious if the region is unsafe when they arrive. Then either begin first aid procedures or call the rescue services depending on the circumstances.
Healthcare staff teach the ABC method of applying First Aid. ABC stands for ‘Airway, Breathing and Circulation’. So, first look in the mouth and at the throat. Look for and remove any blockages such as blood, dentures or foreign bodies.
Then check for breathing. If the patient has stopped breathing, try to resuscitate him or her because the brain cannot survive longer than a couple of minutes without oxygen.
Next check the heart beat. If it has stopped endeavour to get it going again. If there is copious bleeding from a wound, try to staunch the bleeding by applying pressure to it through a clean cloth. Get help if there are a number of wounds but apply tourniquets to arms and legs that are bleeding badly. You can use a belt or stockings as make-shift tourniquets.
If the patient has suffered a bad fall, the first rule is not to move the person. You can cause serious injury to someone with broken bones by moving them. You can even cause paralysis, so if someone has fallen, enquire whether they are able to move their fingers and toes (a sign that the spine is almost certainly undamaged) and then phone the rescue services.
Two of the best safety rules when going hunting, are to inform someone where you are going and never to go alone. If you hunt with the same person often, why not both go to a First Aid class together?

A Short Home Fire Safety Checklist
The way in which to handle situations which could reasonably be expected to result in panic is to have a plan of action firmly fixed in your mind already, so that in the event, you only have to follow routine. This is how people are taught in the military and in rescue organizations. They have procedures and routines and they practice them until they become second nature.
This is not so simple in a domestic situation especially with regard to a house fire – you cannot realistically pretend that you have a house fire and you cannot merely set fire to bits of it either, so the next best thing is to possess a checklist to prevent fires happening and to go through the checklist on a regular basis – say, weekly.
Lots of house fires start in the kitchen, so you could begin there:
1] Is the oven clean? The rings and the oven need to be clean or the debris can catch fire.
2] Are the curtains so long that it is possible that they can get blown onto a hot ring if the window is open? This is a common cause of kitchen fires, especially if you hang new curtains in the winter or spring but do not comprehend that the wind can blow them into the rings until the summer when you open the windows
3] Are the flexes on your electrical devices all right? Check for fraying or wear and tear. Are any of the electrical sockets overloaded? It is not a good idea to use adapters in the kitchen – stick to the principle of one plug in one socket and a pretty good habit is to unplug anything you are not using, even the kettle or the coffee percolator
The home’s heating system is a fire risk, after all it is meant to be hot, so check it:
1] All heaters ought to get switched off while there is no one to keep an eye on them, with the exception of central heating. Turn bar fires off if you go out or go to bed and always fix a guard in front of open fires if you leave the room. ‘Fix’ a guard with clips, do not only stand one in front of the fire because a falling log or lump of coal can knock a guard over.
2] Can curtains or other fabrics blow into the fire or become heated to the point of combustion? Sometimes, people pull their chair or couch up to the fire but fall asleep or go to bed leaving the seat to heat up.
3] Is the chimney clean? Soot can and does catch fire so have your chimney cleaned or inspected regularly.
4] Likewise with the furnace, is it clean and soot-free?
5] If you use gas, are the bottles stored outside the house?
5) Is the furnace been wiped but inspected each year?
6) Are the propane tanks and fuels stored outside the house?
Then there are general points:
1] Do you have a house fire safety evacuation drill? Do you have a muster point, so that everybody knows that everyone is out of the house and safe?
2] Are electric leads, cables yet extension leads in good condition? Do you have any under carpets? If so, you ought to not really, so check them for wear.
3] Are any sockets overloaded? Are all devices that are not in use unplugged?
4] Do you have smoke detectors? Do you test that they are working? Do you have a spare battery in case one fails?

The Importance Of Wearing Decent Clothing
One of the strangest social or cultural phenomena since the Second World War is the change in criteria which individuals use to purchase garments. For thousands of years before then, people wanted the best possible clothing that they could get and one of the criteria that they used to judge each other was their dress sense or the quality of their clothes.
This all started to change in the Seventies when it became more significant to not be seen wearing the same article too often, so it became more desirable to have five cheap shirts that would not last long than to have one high quality shirt that would last for years. How did this shift in principles come about?
The most obvious section to blame are the fashion designers (or their imitators) and the advertisers. Individuals without much money to spend on clothes do not want to be seen in the same blue shirt on every other occasion, they would rather have a number of colours, but perhaps these people do not understand the difference in the quality.
The quality of one’s clothing is very important as most women and around half as many men know. First impressions matter and bright and cheerful (but cheap) is not as impressive to those who know the difference as quality.
To those people who say that the person should count over the clothing, I would say ‘Yes, in a perfect world. One day, but it is not the way it works now’. Why do people dress up for a date, and especially the first date? Why do people dress up for an interview? And why do individuals dress up to go to court?
It is because clothing matters and first impressions count and deep down, we all know it even though most of us wish that it did not matter so much.
First of all, it is vital to find a style that suits you. Then you should buy pieces of clothing that are decent examples of that style. They will not be cheap, but is a Hell’s Angel’s leather jacket cheap? Certainly not. Whatever niche you think you fit into or want to fit into, buy the appropriate clothing to stand out for quality.
I am not saying that people have to dress appropriate to their age group, I am saying that people should dress appropriate to the upper echelons of their niche group. If you would like to become a Hell’s Angel, get one of the best leather jackets and if you want to work in an office, buy yourself a good suit. Just because you cannot tell the difference between a cheap one and a decent one does not mean that your peers cannot as well.
You just have so much scope to transform your physical appearance, but you can still create a big impression by wearing quality clothing like a decent overcoat, a decent suit, a good cardigan or a good shirt. The ones who know the difference will notice and it will not damage your prospects.

RFID Chips: What Are They Good For?
RFID (radio frequency identification) chips or tags as they are better known are the size of the smallest coin in your pocket, but they can store huge amounts of data that can be manipulated in methods that can do incredible things.
For example, RFID tags are in the majority of office identity tags and in some passports, allowing the holder to pass through security quickly while keeping the building or the country secure.
They are a modern version of the bar code. Remember before bar codes and bar code readers? When a shop keeper had to type prices into the cash register, correct mistakes and look up prices that they could not remember? People do not have any time for that anymore.
It is OK at the newsagents, but imagine a teenager typing in your two trolleys of weekly shopping at the supermarket every Saturday. You would still be there on Sunday! Superstores have thousands of articles and dozens of special offers – no-one could remember that lot.
No-one can, but bar codes make it straightforward and so do RFID tags. Bar codes work well, but they have to be seen to be read. RFID tags emit their information on a unique frequency which can be read out of line of sight. In other words, an RFID scanner does not have to be able to see the tag to read it.
The scanner can read what is in your trolley without you having to unload it and as you pass by that scanner and pay for your things, they are subtracted from stock immediately so that the warehouse manger can see what people are buying and what nobody wishes to buy. So, if one brand of cat food sells better than another, the manager will see that on the computer print-out and buy more of that make, thus keeping more people happy.
This use of RFID in stock control or asset management to give it its more official title, can translate itself into other uses too. An RFID tag can be put under your cat’s fur or in its collar so that you can locate him if he gets lost. The police and the wardens scan stray animals for a tag as part of their routine these days. Consevationists have been doing this with wild elephants, big cats and other endangered animals for years. Now you can have it done with your pets as well.
Company cars, as assets of the firm, often carry RFID tags and you can have one placed in your car to aid recovery if it is stolen. Baggage handlers at airports or bus terminals can (and do) use them to prevent mislaying luggage.
The US government insists that RFID tags be used on all vehicles carrying ammunition or dangerous substances and have done for almost ten years. The US military is in fact the principal user of these tags in the world. RFID tags are used to track military assets such as weapons, battle tanks, fuel, containers, artillery, you name it.
Some people are anxious about RFID technology. Where is the line between their convenience and their personal information? For instance, they do not like getting junk emails from people that have been able to trace the purchases they made with their credit cards.
Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on quite a few topics, but is currently involved with the RFID asset tracking. If you would like to know more, please go to our website at Active RFID Management.
Snow Boarding Safety Tips
Safety is a very necessary aspect of snow boarding not only to avoid injury to yourself but also to ensure the safety of innocent bystanders. Snow boarding safety ought to become the prime anxiety for all snow boarders, because it is considered an extreme sport and therefore more dangerous than usual.
So, in the interests of safety for snow boarders and their fans, I have put several safety tips together below.
The first thing to do is to check the quality of the snow board. Look for damage and particularly cracks and splits. The board comes under a lot of stress while in use and you do not need it to disintegrate when you are travelling at speed.
While inspecting the board, check that it is the correct size for you – in other words, is there enough room for you to put your feet on it comfortably? Using the correct size board will permit you to exercise your skill without hindrance.
After making sure that the snow board is suitable, you ought to make certain that you have the right protective clothing. One obvious need is staying warm and another is being able to see where you are going. While you are travelling at high speeds, small flecks of snow and debris can get very painful and even blind you temporarily, so make sure that you are wearing protective goggles.
However, the goggles should be of a sufficient safety level, say, polycarbonate, and must also offer UV protection – UVa, UVb and UVc, if possible. Oakley make safety glasses and goggles of this type.
Make sure that your underwear is warm and then it will not matter too much what outer clothing you don as long as it is waterproof and tear-resistant. Make sure that you are well padded, so that whenever you take that inevitable fall, there is less chance of you breaking bones.
Next, make certain that your inner body is adequately taken care of. Exercising in the snow and keeping warm requires the expenditure of energy, so make certain that you have some. Although it is not recommended that you eat heartily immediately before exercising for fear of cramps, you do have to have consumed something with calories in it and you should make certain that your body is properly hydrated.
Think about taking some emergency supplies with you as well. Snow boarding is a dangerous sport so it is quite possible that you could suffer a bad fall and have to wait for an emergency rescue, which can take a while and the weather could turn nasty, so have some energy-rich chocolate or cereal bars on your person. You can eat snow to produce water, but you may like to take a litre of water with you anyway.
And last, but not least, take a mobile phone with you – one that has GPS, so that you can accurately phone your location to the rescue services should you have to.
