Why You Should Start Planning Your Party Early

There are quite a few opportunities to give a party during the year what with birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Year, Independence Day et cetera, et cetera, but every party has one thing in common, they all have to be planned and the sooner that that planning is started the better.

There are good reasons for starting your planning early. Things can go wrong and individuals can let you down, but if you begin planning early, you can switch to ‘plan B’ easily. You may also have ideas as you are performing your planning and then you will have time to implement them.

Depending on what kind of party you are planning, you might have to begin planning about a month ahead, but you might have to begin even earlier, if you need outside catering or specialized items such as a bouncy house. You may have to book these items months in advance in order to get precisely what food you want or the theme of the bouncy house that you want.

Depending on where you are holding the party and how many are coming, you might also have to get permission or even a license and you might even need portable toilets as well. How about security and sign posts? For instance, it is fairly standard for organizers of wedding parties in rural Thailand to employ security, who will also provide road signs and will direct traffic.

Another good reason for planning early is that you can purchase objects that you need weekly and so spread the cost. You could purchase the paper plates, plastic knives, forks and spoons, plastic beakers, straws and paper table cloths in the first week, the other items you need, such as the drinks, crisps and biscuits, in the following weeks, until all you have to purchase in the week of the party is the perishable food such as sausage rolls, pies, pasties, sandwiches and cakes.

You may also need specialized decorations, particularly for themed birthday parties, Halloween and Christmas. Buying the correct decorations for these kinds of parties can take a while, which is another reason for beginning your planning earlier rather than later.

Another decent reason for getting going early is that you can get the invitations out early, which gives your guests the chance to put you in their diaries. It also gives them lots of time to accept or refuse the invitation so that you can either invite more people to make the numbers up or you can inform the caterers that you will require less food.

It is a sad fact that in spite of all your planning, some facets will go wrong, they always do and you will forget some things as well, people always do and the best precautions against these potential calamities are firstly to begin planning early and secondly to get a few people involved in the planning, because as they say, two heads are better than one.

Should You Have A Weather Radio?

There are radios that are especially for tracking the weather. Not everybody needs one of these dedicated devices, although we are all fascinated by the weather. However, the amount of information given out by most radio stations is sufficient for the majority of us. So what sort of people would profit from a so-called weather radio?

Weather radios are most appropriate for people living in areas where extremes of weather can and do occur on fairly a ordinary basis. If the area where you live is subject to hurricanes, tornadoes and flash floods or even severe storms, you are a likely candidate for a dedicated weather radio. Especially if you have to travel away from home when an extreme weather event may take place.

All radio stations give weather news and weather warnings, but not all radio stations will suspend a programme to give ’stop press’ updates on approaching severe weather conditions. It is the same with television stations, not all of them will suspend the highlight film of the evening to report on an impending storm. Some of the smaller stations are not even subscribed to these types of weather reporting services.

However, it is not only people who live in regions of possible extreme weather who might benefit from these weather radios. People who carry out specialist activities and certain jobs require more specialized weather reports as well. For example, deep sea fishermen, sailors, farmers, mountaineers, hikers and backwoodsmen have to know if severe weather is on the way.

A lot of weather radios are not only capable of broadcasting news about the weather. Many of them have a built-in AM/FM radio too and some will even act as alarm clocks. Some are mains only, while others are battery powered, wind-up or solar powered.

Some are large, but most are intended to be carried easily in a regular backpack and may have earphones too so that you can listen to a transmission during a howling gale.

If you are just sitting at home, you may feel safe enough with the local television or radio station on, but if you have to go outside whilst there is a risk of awful weather, a weather radio is very comforting.

There are loads of kinds and styles of weather radio to suit all needs, but a battery or wind up radio are the safest if you are away from a mains power source such as at sea or in the forest.

You will be able to find weather radios in a good number adventure or camping shops and in many chandlers. It is also straightforward to find these specialized radios on line especially on eBay or Amazon.

Weather radios are not dear to buy, but some models can eat up batteries so always take a couple of extra sets of batteries if you are going off the trodden track.

RV’s And Safety Procedures

An RV – a Recreational Vehicle – is like a house on wheels. It is the landlubber’s equivalent of a barge, you can live in it while travelling the country. You are as free as a bird in your RV as you do not need to go where the hotels are located.

Having said that, the RV is also a mobile bomb carrying gallons of petrol or diesel and tanks of propane or calorgas. Therefore, you need to have clear safety measures in place and you need to know and follow them. Fire safety is of the highest importance to the conscientious RV driver.

Fire extinguishers are rated as either A, B, C, or D, which indicates the type of fire that they can be used to combat. If you did not already know it, you can not simply squirt any fire extinguisher at any type of fire. Using the wrong extinguisher on a fire can escalate the risk, so be cautious.

Having said that, some fire extinguishers can be used on different kinds of fires, so it is possible to find extinguishers rated as AB, BC and even ABC. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that all RV’s carry a BC rated extinguisher near the main exit from the RV. A BC type extinguisher should be used to fight fires originating from flammable liquids and gases – just what an RV driver needs.

The key point about a fire extinguisher of the correct type is that it has to be in the right position. It is no use having a fire extinguisher if you cannot get to it to fight the fire when it breaks out.

If the diver’s cab is detached from the sleeping compartment, you should carry an extinguisher in the cab too. Store one outside the RV and one inside it too.

It is a decent idea to develop a fire prevention and fire safety course before you set out but be sure that your companions know how best to prevent and how best to handle fires in the RV. Fires in confined spaces such as an RV, a caravan or a boat are especially terrifying and dangerous, because you are more probable to become overwhelmed by the smoke and gases than in a house. Finding your way out of an unfamiliar RV that is full of smoke is not as simple as you may think.

You should also instruct your companions how to operate a fire extinguisher – after all, most individuals have never utilized one. Keep in mind the word ‘PASS’, which stands for ‘Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep’.

This means, pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire, squeeze the lever and sweep the spray across the base of the fire until it is extinguished. The optimum distance from the fire is around eight feet, but this is not always possible.

If you have to make a choice between saving the vehicle or endangering your safety, let the RV burn, after all, it is insured. Never put yourself or others at risk for the sake of property.

Six Ways To Make Money Using Your Digital Camera

These are hard times for numerous people, so it is a good time to try to earn from multiple earning streams. Obviously, numerous people are doing this already with a part-time second job, but what if you could have more fun than working in MacDonald’s on the weekend? Hilarious as that may be.

Most individuals have a camera – even a digital camera. I put it like this because you have more control over the image with a digital camera, so you have more chance of producing the photograph that you want and this is vital if you want to sell your work.

Pet Portraits: many individuals like to have portraits of their beloved cat or dog. These photos are not a problem to take, because animals are so photogenic. There are a number of ways you could play this or you could have several different choices, all at different rates

Option One: six photos of kitty in different situations on a CD

Option Two: as above, but with the client’s favourite digital photograph printed out and framed. You should offer a choice of sizes and frames at different prices here.

Option Three: as option one, but with an oil painting of the favourite picture again in different sizes and frames

You can use a printing service for option two until you can afford to purchase your own printer. The oil paintings you can have done in the Far East from photos.

Graduation Photographs: are very much appreciated by parents and grandparents and once again, you could offer at least three different choices. Graduation photos are a good notion because not everyone goes to their nearest college or university and parents cannot always be there.

Picture Editing: many people have a digital camera or a cell phone that takes photographs, but not everybody has a computer, or editing software or knows how to use it if they do have it. You could edit, crop, brighten and frame their amateurish photos and create a nice CD photo album.

You could offer to create a number of themed photograph albums from a jumble of hundreds of photos that they have collected at random during the year(s).

Photo Presents: you could team up with a novelty gift store or a personalized gift store and turn people’s favourite photos into personalized, novelty presents. Photographs, especially digital photographs, can be transferred to almost anything these days: coffee mugs, beer mats, coasters, T-shirts, postcards, calendars, pens, ties, you name it.

Framed Photographs: places like waiting rooms, front offices, taverns and restaurants like to have tasteful pictures on the wall. You could offer a set of photographs on a theme to each establishment according to what they would like. A construction firm might like photos of the board and of their best jobs (presumably they are still standing).

Pub landlords often move about a fair bit, so they could have a set of photos of taverns they have managed. Or a series of photos of the current pub, with some historical captions.

Prized Photos: many individuals with costly possessions like photographs of them – a beautiful home, boat, car or model. Go to the local marina, walk down an expensive street or go to an enthusiasts club meeting (go-kart racing, radio controlled models). Go to bouts or local fashion shows and offer photographs to contestants or models.

More Basic Terminology Concerning The Digital Camera

If you are new to photography, the apparatus may appear very confusing, particularly the camera. It was difficult enough working out the terminology before the digital revolution, but now it is practically impossible. Digital cameras are dedicated microcomputers and equally as difficult for the inexperienced to understand. Here are some frequent terms.

The aperture is the size of the lens and the bigger the aperture of the lens, the more light that is admitted and the more light that is admitted, the better the quality of the image and the less likely it is that you will need to use a flash, which brings its own problems with it. So, look for a camera with a substantial aperture.

The shutter speed is important for taking photos in different qualities of light and for employing special effects. Shutter speed in combination with aperture size gives more control over the final image. For example, a wide aperture will permit enough light in a very short time, so that the shutter can open and close very rapidly, which will permit you to capture a part of a second like water droplets splashing.

Therefore, if the aperture is big enough, you can have a wider range of shutter speeds which will permit you to use special effects while taking your photos. Although the shutter speed is chosen automatically on digital cameras, on some it may be manually chosen if so desired. The shutter speed is connected to the camera’s ability to take motion pictures.

Memory is the camera’s equivalent of a computer’s RAM. It is the temporary storage space for your photos and the amount you require is closely linked to the resolution of the photos and how many you would like to take without resort to memory cards.

Most digital cameras have at least one slot for a memory card. Memory cards may increase your camera’s memory capacity by five, six or even ten times.

There are quite a number of different sorts of memory card and not all cameras can take all types. Therefore, when you buy your digital camera, check what type of memory card it takes and then check that that sort or card suits you. Once you have your camera, you are restricted to which cards you can use.

Memory cards will hold your photos until you empty them, so if you want to take plenty of photos, say, when on vacation, take a few cards with you and process them when you get home. When you have downloaded the images onto your computer, you can wipe the cards clean and use them again.

SLR and DSLR refer to single-reflex lens and digital single-reflex lens. This is a very crucial idea for a photographer, because it means that you will get a photograph of exactly what you see in your camera’s view-finder. The circumstances with most cheap cameras is that the camera ‘looks out’ of the lens, but the photographer looks through a view-finder.

These two lenses come from slightly different angles. This is not much of an issue for medium to long distance photography, but can cause optical errors in close ups. Therefore, professional and dedicated amateur photographers will always purchase an SLR or DSLR for their serious jobs.

However, the technology in these cameras makes them more expensive, heavier and more bulky than most amateur snappers would want to put up with.
